What’s next in technology?
I was doing a mental audit last night to figure out what’s next in technology and realized there’s really not much out there. I should say, there’s not much “new” out there! Here we are in 2009 approaching 2010 and we still have practically the same stuff we had five or six years ago.
OK so plasma T.V.s, iPhone, and WIIs pretty much dominate but by now I would have expected more advanced things like flying cars or hover boards. I’ve seen concept cars and think (wow that is nice) at least the design but when I hit the streets I have yet to see one in action. I’ve seen the latest phone designs (a flexible wrap around screen phone) but when I look for it at the mall… well its not there.
Where is the invisible cloak or the rocket shoes??? Nowhere. So the Japanese are aggressively working on robots and suites that let you climb walls but what about the average person? All we have is iPhones with the latest “apps” boy, they are sure selling the hell out of “There’s an app for that” but after a while, there’s only so much you can do with a freaking app!
Google is another big player but I’m talking hardware. I’m talking hand held, personal, and powerful! I want something that can get me out of a jam, transport me to the nearest hospital or zap an attacker if needed. I want something that can do everything including synthesize a Whopper and take it right out of my bank account while I’m being driven in my flying car by my robot butler Jack.
Well if that’s not available, then at least these things are.
Part of my frustration is that I had high expectations for the future. I grew up watching television shows like Star Trek and movies like Back to the Future so my outlook was great! We would have everything we needed in the future but we really don’t. As I got older, I got used to the slow sluggish progression of things to come but still did not let go of the dream of one day being able to go into space and come back with the flip of a switch.

I was just looking for info about this when I found your blog post. I’m simply dropping by to say that I really liked reading this post, it is really well written. Are you going to write more about this? It looks like there is more material here for later posts.
